dude, jimi hendrix used his thumb to hold down the top string, its all about what feels the best, sometimes you need to put it behind the neck but not all of the time, and alot of the time you need your thumb to be above the neck.

Thank you very much, your a great teacher and this is one of the better youtube tutorials i have seen. I am a beginner and learned to play the song in one sitting. The trick for me was to print out the tab and follow along with your video. Bravo, look forward to more
